Rosehill Woodcrafters - MacGregor Homegrown Business

A memorable story I have of when I first moved to MacGregor, is of a time I was asked by someone in the city where I lived. “MacGregor,” I answered them, expecting to have to explain about the Co-op service station you need to turn at to get into town. However, to my surprise, the person answered back to me fairly readily. “Oh ya, that’s where Rosehill is,” was how they replied.

It’s with this experience of mine to set the stage, that I am excited to share with you this week’s MacGregor Homegrown Business highlight, where I talk to Harvey Boehlig, the Founder, President and General Manager of Rosehill Woodcrafters, about the business that for many people has put MacGregor on the map.

Tell me what Rosehill all does specifically?

Rosehill Woodcrafters manufactures and sells kitchens, cabinetry and commercial millwork. Our products are for sale in our 2 showrooms and we also have contractors and dealers who also sell them.

Tell me the story of how Rosehill began.

Rosehill started in the spring of 1993 when an opportunity came up to purchase a church building. A trade agreement was made to build church pews in their new building in exchange for the old church and property now known as Rosehill Woodcrafters. We moved in and lived in the basement and started Rosehill on the main floor.

How has running Rosehill gone over the years?

With any business, there are ups and downs. Fortunately, we have been blessed over the years with great staff that want to learn. We figure things out together, managing through obstacles, challenges and many celebrations. After 30 years, it still requires "learning as you go" and always learning from it all and finding the small milestones to celebrate as well.

Why was Rosehill started in MacGregor? What do you think MacGregor has to offer that other places don't and what does your organization give back to MacGregor beyond your services?

Rosehill was started in Macgregor when I was able to make a deal on a building that fit my budget, has many great and hardworking people, it is a nice safe community to raise a family, and offers many small town amenities.

How has COVID-19 impacted Rosehill?

Thankfully, we were deemed an essential service so we never had to fully close. Before all this happened, our sales team was very busy, but then when the shut down started, a lot of people simply held off on purchasing new cabinets and getting new quotes. So for a while things really ground to a halt. Now the sales side has finally started to pick up again, but sadly the shop is still slow because of that lull.

What does your organization give back to MacGregor beyond your services?

We believe it's important to give where we live, and have donated to organizations including sponsoring Sticks and Pucks, donating the kitchen to the Rosehill Eatery in the Arena, Providing a kitchen to Circle square Ranch Camp, helping out people in need to name a few. Many of our staff are involved in volunteer services and in churches in MacGregor as well.

What benefits are there for people to shop at Rosehill?

We have had loyal customers because we build good products, we are local and we give back to the community. When you buy from Rosehill, the money isn’t going out of province, it stays right here in the community, paying local staff, and giving back to benefit you and the community. We hear people talking about buying local, especially after how hard Covid has been on the local economy, businesses and individuals, with all the shutdowns, layoffs, etc. If looking for new cabinetry, we hope you will continue working with us, help keep our local staff employed and also know that when you purchase from us, you partner with us in giving back to the community of Macgregor.
